AGEING\MOSSING – terracotta pottery can attract algae, moss and\or white lime deposits that are present in the raw clays. Some people see this ageing feature, as adding an antique old look, which further enhances the natural terracotta look. The ageing look can be induced by applying some yoghurt to the outside and soaking the item. Alternatively, if you prefer a ‘clean’ looking pot, when terracotta starts to age, simply remove the ageing with a stiff brush and water.

FROST – in Countries that experience heavy frosts, pottery should be raised off the ground by the use of pot feet, with either pottery crock, stones, or our mini balls in filled to approx 1/4 of the pot, prior to the potting mix being added. Always ensure the drainage holes are not blocked.

SAUCERS – the use of Saucers are also good for the hotter months, as the saucer will assist in keeping the soil moist, which allows the plants to drink more often. During winter months, in frost areas, it is recommended to remove saucers.

GLAZED & NATURAL EARTHENWARE POTTERY – these kilns are fired to approx 1200 degrees Celsius, and fuelled with plantation timbers from the jack fruit tree, which is a fast regrowth tree.

MOISTURE – care should be taken when using pottery indoors, as moisture can develop under the pot or saucer. No pot or saucer can be guaranteed to be 100% sealed against moisture or seepage.

WATERING – during hotter months, potted plants will require more frequent watering.
